On September 19, 2022, Chief Judge Hala Y. Jarbou of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan preliminarily approved a $54 million settlement agreement in a case alleging defendants The 3M Company and Wolverine Worldwide, Inc. caused hazardous chemicals to be released into the environment in Kent County, Michigan. The case alleges that the defendants improperly disposed of toxic waste containing PFAS in certain disposal sites in Kent County, causing the groundwater and soil to be contaminated.

The settlement will provide direct payments to homeowners whose drinking water was contaminated, if it receives final approval from the court.

“We are proud of the class representatives for leading the effort to hold the defendants accountable,” said Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd LLP partner Dory P. Antullis, who serves on the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee. “Because of their leadership, homeowners will have the opportunity to receive restitution for the harm they suffered.”

Robbins Geller attorneys Mark J. Dearman, Dory P. Antullis, and Alexander C. Cohen together with co-counsel, obtained this result for the class.
