Record Breaking Settlement of In re Facebook Biometric Information Privacy Litigation,

On February 26, 2021, the Honorable Judge James Donato of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California granted final approval to the largest privacy class action settlement in history. The settlement provides for the payment of $650 million for the benefit of eligible Class Members. Plaintiffs Nimesh Patel, Adam Pezen, and Carlo Licata alleged violations of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, 740 ILCS 14/1, et seq., related to the alleged unauthorized collection and storage of biometric data through the use of Facebook’s “tag” feature.
