The chief trial counsel at San Diego-based Coughlin Stoia Geller Rudman & Robbins has been at the helm of some history-making cases. Among them is Enron, in which he helped recover $7.2 billion for investors. He also worked to end the controversial Joe Camel ad campaign, securing $12.5 billion for California cities and counties in a settlement with the tobacco companies. Recently, he led a case in which a federal court granted preliminary approval of a settlement requiring Coca-Cola to pay $137 million to shareholders for alleged securities law violations.

As lead counsel in securities cases and class actions, he’s recovered more than $2 billion for shareholders. In July, he led a team of lawyers that recovered a record $895 million for shareholders from the UnitedHealth Group in a case involving stock options backdating. He’s now turning his attention to the subprime fallout, with cases involving Citibank, Merrill Lynch, Washington Mutual and Countrywide. Robbins also spends time on the lecture circuit, speaking on topics ranging from the post-Enron world and corporate governance to directors and officers liability.
