Robbins Geller Partner David Mitchell Honored for Outstanding Antitrust Litigation Achievement in ISDAfix Benchmark Action
On October 9, 2018, the American Antitrust Institute 2018 Antitrust Enforcement Awards selected Robbins Geller partner David W. Mitchell as an Honoree in the category of Outstanding Antitrust Litigation Achievement in Private Law Practice for his work in Alaska Electrical Pension Fund v. Bank of America Corp. Along with a team of Robbins Geller attorneys and co-counsel, Mitchell recently obtained a $96 million settlement with the 5 remaining financial firms in the antitrust class action against 14 major banks and broker ICAP plc. The case resolves allegations that defendants conspired to manipulate U.S. Dollar ISDAfix, the key interest rate for a broad range of interest rate derivatives and other financial instruments, in contravention of the competition laws, to benefit their own trading positions. If granted final approval, the settlement will bring the total recovery to more than $500 million for plaintiffs.
Mitchell leads Robbins Geller’s antitrust benchmark rate litigations, as well as the Firm’s pay-for-delay actions, and has served as lead or co-lead counsel in numerous cases and has helped achieve substantial settlements for shareholders. Mitchell’s other recent notable cases include Dahl v. Bain Capital Partners, LLC, in which he obtained more than $590 million for shareholders, and In re Payment Card Interchange Fee and Merchant Discount Antitrust Litig., in which he helped obtain a $6.26 billion cash settlement amount (subject to court approval).
Mitchell, along with other honorees, will be recognized at American Antitrust Institute’s gala dinner on Wednesday, November 14, 2018.
